Husband and wife team, John and Lee Swift, started Solidago Wreath Company in 2008. That year, they both worked seasonally for a local Christmas tree farm- Long Ridge Farm. John was in the field driving big old trucks straight up and down the mountain, and harvesting the trees. Meanwhile, Lee made double-sided Fraser Fir and White Pine natural wreaths to be shipped to Farmer’s Markets around the country.
When the wreaths were done for Long Ridge, Lee decided to make the most beautiful wreath she could, using the abundant natural resources around her. She used the berries culled from invasive species growing wild, such as bittersweet and privet, as well long neglected stands of snowberries around old home sites. These were added to a base of Fraser Fir and White Pine. To make the wreath really stand out against the cold, grey winter sky, she added sprigs of the golden- chartreuse evergreen from the cypress family.

John took the wreath to the ‘Circle C Choose and Cut’ tree farm to show them. Needless to say, the craft wreath caught the eye of a lot of folks, and Solidago Wreath Company was born.
Solidago is the Latin genus name for goldenrod. Goldenrod Gardens is name of John and Lee’s landscape design/ install company, which they operate during the (short) growing season the in the Boone, North Carolina area.
